Did you send this to me?

I got this most wonderful handspun yarn a few months ago. It was an extra tucked into a bag of bit of Knitpicks Shine Sport that I was collecting to work up a toy.

I have the envelope it came in with the lovely note... at my house in Iowa... I grabbed it on my way out thinking I would come up with something for it.

As fate would have it - I didn't grab a hat or scarf. So I was thinking that it would make a lovely neck warmer and if there is enough something to go over my ears. I didn't bring needles for it, but there is a Michael's within about 2 minutes of this apartment. I've been squeezing it and loving it ever since it came - the spin is sooooooo cool, the colors wonderful and the stuff is sooooooo darn squooshy!

I don't know the yardage.

So here are my questions?
1. who sent this to me - I want to properly credit. Linnea perhaps?
2. Pattern suggestions to really showcase this wonderful yarn?

Closed.

I have just closed my etsy shop.

I don't want to get into the reasons here - if you message me (gtalk, knittyboard, knittychat, email) I will probably talk to you about it, maybe.

I had grand dreams...

Whatever.

A CSPIA Update

Direct from the CSPIA website's FAQ section:

Section 104: Standards and Consumer Registration of Durable
Nursery Products

Will infants’ crib bedding, blankets, bath textiles, and apparel fall under the heading of "durable product"?
No. Congress did not define the term "durable," but it is commonly understood to mean able to exist for a long time without significant deterioration. Cloth/textile items are generally not considered to be durable goods. None of the items Congress specified in section 104 as examples of durable products are items made entirely of cloth, rather they are primarily made from rigid materials (e.g., cribs, toddler beds, high chairs, strollers, bath seats).

So that means that my bibs should be safe... I make them from 100% cotton, most of them organic. I use 100% cotton thread, even.

That takes a little bit of the edge off... I just want to see something firm and clear in writing!

Getting Closer...

Posting may (and has become) a little more random. I made it 90 days (!!!) posting each day - but now things are so crazy I can't do that.

Xiris leaves for his new job this weekend, and I leave next week sometime. I need to get a few things taken care of here before moving to the temporary digs.

Packing, prepping the house for show, paperwork, appointments - all fun stuff!

We've been showing the house like crazy, and a family is coming back for a second viewing tonight. I take that as a good sign - I remember we came to this house 3 times before we made an offer. I am hoping that they will be bringing their children, so the kids can get excited about the rooms and the movie theatre (which will be playing when they walk in this time).

Fingers crossed that they want to make an offer, and that its not completely ridiculous. We know that they have some land to sell - and the Shark...er Realtor is working in our favor to help us get this place sold ASAP.

So in the mean time, I am keeping the house staged with 2 toddlers and a dog - and making lists of things that need packed for the new place. Toys, clothes, Wii, paperwork, knitting, dry goods, jewelry - that kind of thing...

I also need to bring my Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World cookbook. I will need to make some cupcakes once we are there.

Why? Well - Saturday is SpacePirates' 1st birthday and Sunday is PrincessZs' 2nd birthday. (Confused yet?) We had them allergy tested this week - Z is still allergic to eggs and corn - and SpacePirate is allergic to eggs... so vegan cupcakes it is...

I have found corn free baking powder and confectioners' sugar - so that's a step...

SAVE HANDMADE!

You may know by now that the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act will be going into effect in just a few short weeks. If you have heard anything about this Act, you will know that it was written in a very hasty manner at the height of all of the lead toy drama.

As the mother to two little toy munchers, I completely understand the need for such a law. I really do - I just think that it needs to worded much better. The way the law can be interpreted right now - every single thing that is intended for use by a child 12 and under must have gone through an extensive testing process. We're talking the toys you buy off of etsy, the bibs I make - even the little baby sweaters that some of us lovingly knit and sell.

It does not matter if you make your product from materials that have been tested already. Your finished product must be tested. Just in my initial research - the tests are NOT CHEAP... at all. Expensive enough that I would have to sell my bibs for over $50 each to cover the costs.

So, take a second if you can and follow the link on the picture above. It will lead you to the places where our word can be heard. Take a minute to register over at change.org and post your concern there. President-Elect Obama will be given the top three public concerns from this website on his inauguration day - and he will address them immediately. We need to get our word heard.

While I have only sold a few bibs (with great responses) - it was truly something that I was hoping to make a little business out of. I love doing it, and it made me and the recipients happy. If this new law goes into effect as written, I can't do that.
