I was recently contacted by NewWorldLibrary, and asked if I would like to read and review a new knitting themed book being released.Knitting the Threads of Time: Casting Back to the Heart of Our Craft by Nora Murphy is a lovely little read. We follow along with the author from the very beginning of a special project. From pattern and yarn choices, to casting on. Through the dark Minnesota winter, we join her as she seems vexed by the pattern, annoyed at her mistakes and finally to the last stitch. We triumph with her as she proudly gives the sweater to her young son who specifically requests it, and he loves it.
Intermingled with the authors' knitting are informative snippets about the traditions and cultures of women from many backgrounds, including Hmong, American Indian, Mexican, African, and Irish.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was quick, fun and informative. And, oddly, I have a desire to cast on for a sweater with flames worked on the sleeves.
In fact, I loved this read enough to want to share it. Leave a comment on this post and I will randomly draw Friday April 10th for a winner.
