I decided that my lovely machine needed a name and it came to me while Xiris was servicing her for me (what a difference an aircan, some lube and oil can make!). I named her Edna because my darling Nonnie (Edna) gave her to me and I feel her with me whenever I sit and press that old pedal to make it go.
She's running like a dream now, and seems to like all the seams and things she's been forced to do lately. I'm working hard to get the shop stocked - booties are in the design stages as well as personalized burp cloths and lots of neat things to hold things (knitting things, more specifically!) I'm sure I'll post an update when I get everything finished and posted.
Alison over at The Blue Blog helped me with this. She was my inspiration - she originally posted a similar quilt for one of her boys. I asked her to help me make one and she did - even writing out cutting instructions and everything! WOW! What a great lady - and a true inspiration to me! Thank you Alison! What do you think?
I am still working on a quilting idea in my head... I love the big blocks of color here, and I don't want to distract from it too much, but it does need something. Xiris thinks that over quilting it will make it look more girly, and I tend to agree here. I'm open to suggestions and comments!
Oh - the spools of thread? When I was cleaning and organizing my craft room (in prep for Princess to move in soon) I came across Nonnie's box of thread. Most of it was pretty old and not really usable. I threw out the stuff that was pretty gross, but for some reason I kept all the thread that was on the old fashioned wooden spools. I didn't want to keep them hidden away in an old box, so I bought a cheap shadow box at Ikea a couple of weeks ago and stacked them all in there. I put a couple on end so you can see the old, old labels. I love the textile-ness of it, and now I have a new piece of art.
